Part 2
We now have a contractor. They have agreed on a price to replace all windows, raise the ceiling height in living room, kitchen and den, add a new master bedroom. They also will add a new covered porch off the kitchen and a half bath which can be accessed from the pool. Unfortunately , we can not have cedar shakes or make the garage into a 2 car garage.
Den
Here is a photo of the front door and looking toward the den which we decided to enlarge by about 2 feet.
They were able to raise the ceiling in the den too. This is looking towards the garage.
Here is the original den. We added 2 feet to the room size and raised this ceiling.
Old laundry room-now mud room
This is standing in the kitchen looking toward the garage. Notice how the roof pitch is. We are hopeful that it can be vaulted. You can see where the old steps from the garage entered into the house, on the back left. The room on the right side is the old laundry room. We hope to use this space as a mud room and entrance from the garage.
Here is the original laundry room
Here are the original steps from the garage.
Here is the same space with the laundry room wall removed. The new steps will be where the red mud can be seen. These steps are accessed from the end of the garage instead from the middle of the garage like it was before. The newspaper on the floor is where I am trying to figure out the kitchen cabinets and island.
Kitchen
We are standing in the kitchen. Notice the space above the kitchen. The single board is how they will vault the kitchen ceiling. These boards are sitting on the wall between the den and kitchen.
Here is the same view with the new ceiling.
Living room
Here is the living room. They have removed the low beam and raised it up about 10 feet. The new white boards (that you can see) are now holding the roof up. You can see how the pitch of the roof must be hidden up in the attic. Because of the pitch we are limited as to how high we can raise the roof even though there is more room to go up.
Here is the finished product. We have to tray 2 sides of the the room because of the roof pitch. We are trying to decide if we tray 3 sides or just the 2 sides.
Here is the 3rd side with a tray. We are not sure we want to tray this side. We are leaning toward only 2 sides with the tray.
We removed the wall between the kitchen and living room. Now we have a column in the room.
Here is what it looked like with the wall.
Here is the other side of the living room with the fire place. Notice the new wood which is supporting the raised beam. You can see the roof pitch , which is why we have to tray the ceiling.
Here is what it looked like with the low beam and the 8 foot ceiling.
Here it the fire place wall with the tray.
Here is the column that is holding a lot of this up. This is looking towards the kitchen with the new pitched roof.
The new master bedroom has been started. Stay tuned!
